Mathematics

Everyone can do maths, everyone can!

At St Aidan’s, all teachers follow the White Rose scheme of work. This scheme of work enables the children to build fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

You are able to access the scheme of work and track your child’s stage of learning via this link:

White Rose’s NEW National Curriculum Progression gives an at-a-glance guide to how the White Rose Maths curriculum links to the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 National Curriculum, and how it progresses through the topics.

The progression document will help you to see what your child will cover in their year group and what is taught in other years.

Our vision

At St. Aidan`s Catholic Primary Academy our vision is to give children a Maths curriculum which ensures that every child can achieve excellence in mathematics. To achieve this we aim for the children to have a positive attitude towards Maths, as an interesting and valuable subject, and understand its importance in everyday life.

Our aim is that the children develop their understanding of mathematics through a process of fluency, reasoning and problem solving. We intend for the children to be able to express their ideas fluently and talk about the subject using mathematical language, while experiencing a range of learning strategies: working cooperatively, collaboratively and independently. We believe that these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident, life-long learners who will explore the world around them.

Our aims: The measure of success will be our pupils developing as lifelong learners and confident, responsible individuals who contribute positively to society. We will strive for excellence in all aspects of our work.

This means:

  • Valuing all pupils and staff as individuals, celebrating diversity and promoting equality, living our lives according to our Mission Statement.
  • Enabling every child to succeed as an independent, enthusiastic and confident learner.
  • Building an inspirational, inclusive, learning environment, raising attainment and progress for all pupils and realising potential. Preparing them for the advancing technological world we live in.
  • Developing a dedicated, skilled staff; working with commitment to a common purpose- a high quality education for all pupils.
  • Ensuring lessons and learning experiences are of the highest quality for every pupil and assessment is used to make learning and teaching highly effective and help everyone understand how to improve.
  • Establishing strong relationships with parents and the wider community with effective communication.
